HERE'S A WAY TO HANDLE THE HEALTHCARE PROBLEM
Healthcare is a major issue in the United States today. It seems that everyone has a different plan to solve the healthcare problem, and this lack of agreement makes me suspect that none of the plans would actually work. But we need to do something about healthcare. Don't we? Well, do we?
It seems to me that most people take it for granted that healthcare is a right. Every American citizen deserves affordable healthcare. But is that really self-evident? Consider that question, and see if you don't agree with me that healthcare is not a right.
The Bible tells us to feed the hungry and clothe the naked, but it doesn't say anything about healing the sick. I guess God takes responsibility for that. And if so, apparently he doesn't believe good health is a right of every person. And actually, I don't think the Bible is commanding the government to feed the hungry and clothe the naked. It's a command for God's people.
Another thing: If we decide that healthcare is a right, then what's next? Does everyone have a right to have electricity? What about indoor plumbing? Is it self-evident that every person deserves at least one car? And a house? Should the government be required to make sure that every person has a gun? And a spouse? And two children? Where do we draw the line?
So, in my opinion, healthcare is not a right. However, as President, I will take my role as servant of the people very seriously. So if the majority of Americans want affordable healthcare, I'll do whatever I can to provide it.
