THE ZOO
by Ken Samuel
This is my second choose-your-own-adventure story.
You went to a zoo. But you found that you didn’t have enough money to get in. You need 50¢, but you only have 45¢. What can you do?
You throw the penny at the monkey, and he screetches his thanks. Now you go into the zoo.
You pick up the stick and fight the bobcat while yelling for help. It’s hard to do both, and the bobcat is gaining an advantage over you. You must drop the stick and run or stop yelling for help.
You wish hard that you had a nickle, but no fairy comes. Then you see a balloon. You hold on to it, and you start to fly — wow! You fly over the wall and down again.
“What??? ” shouts the girl’s mother. And she kills you.
The End
You tell the manager to get your map back. He says he won’t. “Then I’ll go in there and get it myself, ” you threaten. He says, “Go ahead. ” You see a crowd around the peacock.
You go and see the elephants. Then, one elephant reaches its trunk over the fence and pulls you in. Luckily, the other people threw peanuts, so the elephant forgot about you. You run off to the peacock.
You say, “I’m sorry, little girl. ”
You walk backwards. You fall into the hands of the crooks, who kill you.
The End
You would rather leave the zoo than stay, so you go home. At home, it is boring. Then you find 50¢ in the couch. So, you go back to the zoo again.
You pay and get into the zoo. Now, you wonder what to do first.
You take a deep breath and jump in. You go deep and see lots of seals. Then you go up for a breath of air. Everyone laughs when they see you. But a mysterious man suddenly walks away. He’s probably going to get that picture from the camera to see if you are the guilty one.
You walk forward. Soon, your blindfold falls off, and you find yourself outside of the zoo. You decide to go home now.
The End
You open the gate and then go in, closing the gate behind you. Then, out of the hole comes a bobcat. You see a large stick nearby.
You go meet your mother. She’s pleasantly surprised, and she says, “Let’s celebrate our reunion at the peacock. ” You say, “Let’s celebrate right here. ”
You feel sorry for the beggar, so you give him the dime. He thanks you very much. Then he looks at the dime and says, “WHOOPY! I’ve looked all over for you, Baby! ” He gives you a dollar and a penny. Then you see a monkey doing tricks.
You walk around without a map. Then, someone behind you wraps a blindfold over your eyes and says, “This is a stick up! Put your hands behind your back! ” After he finishes tying your hands together, somebody further away shouts, “Hey Freddy, come here! I’ve got a rich guy. ” The man behind you says, “Wait right here. ” Then he walks away. You still have the blindfold on.
You walk to the right and bump into a cage. Then somebody unties your hands and takes off your blindfold. You find yourself at the peacock cage.
You say, “Okay, ” but the girl’s mother is already gone. You find it very easy, because you just sit on the bench and watch her play. Then a beautiful woman comes along and says hello. She asks you if you will go see the polar bear with her. Then you remember the girl. What should you do?
You throw the dollar at the monkey, but then the wind blows it back to you.
You stay. Then a man comes up. It is the man who took your picture when you entered. You are frozen. He says, “Remember earlier when I was taking a picture of my wife, and you got in the way? ” You leave the zoo.
The End
You are in the middle of the water, yelling for help. It is hard to yell and stay above water at the same time. So you drown.
The End
You look at the kangaroo. Then the baby kangaroo hops out. You run after Joey, and at last you catch him. Then you turn around, and there is one of the zoo managers. He’s angry. You drop the kangaroo and run.
You go and find that the price of maps is 5¢. Then, over by the seals, you see your mother.
You help her up the ladder, and then her mother comes along and says, “Thank you. Will you babysit Laura? ”
You go to see the rhinoceros. He is silly-looking. Then you see the peacock nearby. You go to the peacock. Then you hear laughing over by the rhinoceros. You go there and see your map of the zoo is stuck on his horn. You decide to let him have it, since the maps are free. But then you notice that they have raised the price of maps to 5¢. You don’t want to pay, so you can do one of the following things.
You pick up the stick and start to fight the bobcat. All the people watch in amazement. Then the bobcat gets bored and wanders back into his hole. That is when the zoo managers come along and tell you to go home.
The End
You have snuck into the zoo. Then you look up and <snap>! Oh no! Someone has taken your picture. You must hide. Where should you hide? You see a big area that has a hole at the back, where the animal must be. Also, you are a very good swimmer, so you could go with the seals.
You run past the gate, and the man says, “Hey, mister! ” You don’t look at him in case he has seen your picture. “What’s your phone number? ” You say, “377-6624 ” quickly, as you run past him. When you get home, the telephone rings. It is the man. He says, “I have to pay you a dollar for being the fastest runner today. ”
The End
You look at the peacock. It is very pretty. Then a man comes and says, “Get out. It’s closing time. ” So you leave.
The End
You go into the cage. The rhinoceros roars and charges at you. You can’t see any way out, when suddenly, a monkey reaches down, catches you, and pulls you up. Now you are still alive, but you are stuck in the monkey cage, and you find it hard to live on bananas.
The End
You make faces at a baby monkey, but then his big mother comes along and roars at you. You run away and find yourself between the giraffe and the rhinoceros.
You walk to the left. Suddenly, you hear a roar. You have gone through an open door into the lion cage. It kills you.
The End
You swim quickly to the other side, but the hippo is catching up with you. You get out of the water, and the hippo gets out too. You yell, “Help! ” “Aw, don’t worry. Jimmy wouldn’t hurt a fly, ” a zoo man says. But you are wet and cold, so you go home.
The End
You want to look at something at the other end of the zoo, where you aren’t likely to be found. You can start running that way, but then you see that they are selling zoo maps just behind the lions.
You get a map of the zoo. The closest things to you are the rhinoceros, the hippopotomous, and the peacock.
You go to the hippopotomous. You hear some kids behind you chasing each other. Then one of them bumps into you, and you fall in the water. You see the hippo heading toward you. You could try to swim to the side of the pool. But then you would need help to get out.
You yell for help and run, but the bobcat isn’t running after you. He goes back into his hole. The people help you out of the exhibit, and you go to rest at the park. Then a little girl asks you to help her up the ladder to the slide.
You decide to go home and forget it. Then you notice something shining. It is a dime. As you pick it up, you see a beggar.
You change the dollar bill into a silver dollar so you can throw it at the monkey. But after you change it, you find the monkey isn’t there anymore. Then you see him on the other side of the street, so you go over and throw the coin at him. Now you don’t have enough money to get into the zoo.
You go to the giraffe and there you find a pretty girl. Together you two go to see either the hippopotomous or the kangaroo.
You start to run off. Then you wonder where to go.
You stand still. Nothing happens.
